CUR’s National Office Team is composed of talented professionals who are passionate about the work they do and their commitment to providing the highest standard of service for CUR’s members and community. After all, our community is our family here at CUR. We have taken a moment to interview each of our National Office Staff for you all to get to know them a little better.
Q: Many people have fancy titles that don't necessarily describe what they do for the organization to its fullest extent. Can you elaborate on what you do for CUR?
A: It’s my job to make sure that every member has the tools they need to support and participate in UR in their own community. Some days that means I’m helping make connections between members and others that support the UR community, some days I’m working to recruit new members to add more diverse voices to the CUR community, and other days I’m working on the back-end to make sure that everyone is able to easily sign up for their membership or an event, to access the resources that they are looking for, and that the national office team has the technology to make it easier for them to do their jobs.
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: I went to the University of Virginia, and majored in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry.
Q: Do you prefer tea or coffee and why?
A: My favorite flavor of tea or coffee is Diet Coke. I think I like the bubbles, and that it’s cold!
Q: Were you involved in undergraduate research when you were in school or elsewhere?
A: Undergraduate research was something I knew about for most of my college experience, and had close friends that had amazing experiences. To me it always seemed like something that was out of my reach – something only the go-getters did, and I was not the type of person that would go around asking professors on how I could get involved.
Because of how unattainable it seemed when I was in college, I am so very glad to work with so many dedicated faculty, mentors, and administrators that are working to break down those barriers and provide undergraduate research experiences for all students.
Short disclaimer: My last semester of college, a brief undergraduate research experience fell into my lap. I worked on a project that helped my professor develop a way to evaluate how well his graduate students were able to teach virtual titration labs to undergraduates.
